“Perfect!”
I’m always a bit wary when a book is recommended to me (past disappointments) but with regards to Quarantine Cave, I needn’t have worried. I thoroughly enjoyed it - loved the mixture of humour and mysticism and (living in Cornwall) recognised a lot of the places (and possibly some of the characters too). Not only was it a fab read but (without giving too much away I hope) I think I’ve decided what my next hobby will be. Crossing fingers for a sequel soon!

“Wonderful!”
An exciting read into a post apocalyptic world, the remains of the earth ravaged by global warming has bad it dangerous and the animals and fauna turn wilder. The characters a memorable and interesting individually, it's hard not to want to know more about them. I look forward to the next instalment as Rib's journey appears to be far from over!

“Excellent!”
The Fearance is very funny and exciting throughout. Complex, without being impossible to understand, as long as you have read the first book. Definitely recommended!

“Very well paced!”
Well worth a read. Tight plotting, neatly interwoven storylines, engaging characters. A very well paced novel with a fair amount of tongue-in-cheek humor, just in case it might seem that things are getting a bit too serious. If you want the background to this one, read "Big Frog" and "The Fearance" - the first two books in the trilogy. The author is adventurous, inventive and pretty audacious at times. Give him a shot.

“Wonderful storytelling!”
I'm so glad a came across this book. I was initially hooked by the cover design, but the inside gets better with a unique, mysterious and wonderfully delivered piece of storytelling! Heartedly recommended.

“I was hooked!”
I actually saw the author of this book when he was promoting it in my local book shop. I ended up ordering one of Amazon. I was hooked after a couple of pages and can’t wait for the second book.

“A great sequel”
I really enjoyed this book, great sequel to Big Frog. I laughed a lot and I enjoyed spotting the nods to MK and other cultural references. Lots of the jokes were very clever. I also think the characters are well described. I particularly liked Alf the fox. I can't wait for the next one.

“Wonderfully surreal, frighteningly real”
After the triumph of his Meskitoe trilogy Rob Badcock has propelled me again along a roller coaster of high stakes, vulnerable, helpless emotion. A shockingly dark, mysterious story and terrifyingly magical personae and creatures, shaped and surrounded by local history and myth in an intimate Cornish landscape, already known or yet to be discovered. Alabaster frightened me to my core. Fabulous. Fantastic. I couldn't budge from my seat.

“A real page turner.”
One of those books that are hard to put down. Lent this by a friend and enjoyed it so much I've just brought my own copy. If you are looking for a fun and easy read that will make you laugh out loud, I would recommend 'Big Frog'. Looking forward to the next instalment Rob Badcock, so get writing sir!

“Good read, great setting”
In ‘Quarantine Cave’, the author lets his imagination off the leash and has a high old time pursuing the adventures of Amber Kitto on a rogue pinball ride through darkest Cornwall. The book all but invites you to hop on the back of Amber’s black-eyed Raptor quad bike and hang on to your hat. The action is set in, and deeply infused by, Cornwall’s moors and mines, caves and tors. There is palpable weight and depth and darkness in the landscape which the characters inhabit and which, to an extent, inhabits them.
The author’s invention has given birth to a wondrous range of beings and animals: Gummo the porterboy, Slizzer Eels, Lode Dogs, balmaidens, and Venomers amongst others; not to mention the monumental Alabaster….(well, you’ll see).
And Mr. Badcock educates us, too. I, for one, was unaware that bees are the tears of Ra, the Sun God, but thus it is. The bees, both good and bad (see Venomers above), are central to the story, as are the bee maidens and masters who are sworn to serve and protect the sacred black bees. But that’s enough from me. You need to read it.
Enjoy the ride, and take care that the Rock of Elektra doesn’t fall on you.
